Installing Eclipse

What is Eclipse?

Eclipse is an integrated development environment (IDE) to run Java applications.

What are some alternatives?

If you are a mobile user, you there are plenty of Java compiler apps that you can install on your phone. Before you install the app, just make sure it's for Java and not another language. If you can’t download Eclipse, you can also use websites such as codiva.io.

Steps to installing Eclipse:

  1. Download the Eclipse Installer from https://eclipse.org/downloads. Download the one that says "Eclipse IDE"

  2. After the download, it should be available in the download directory. You might get a security warning to run this file. Click run.

  3. This version shows multiple packages available. Install the package for Java developers.

  4. Select the folder where you want Eclipse to be installed and click install.

  5. After the installation, click launch.

  6. After Eclipse is running, on the upper left hand corner, click file and click on new Java project. Name your project and click finish.

  7. Happy coding! :)
